Indonesia and France have reinforced their collaboration in civil aviation with the signing of Annex V to their existing bilateral agreement, according to Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation.
Strengthening Civil Aviation Cooperation
The agreement, an update to the technical cooperation framework, aims to address the evolving needs of the civil aviation sector. Lukman F. Laisa, a ministry official, stated the Annex V agreement reinforces both countries’ commitment to enhancing civil aviation safety and security.
The signing occurred in two stages: Indonesia’s Director General of Civil Aviation signed on December 3 in Jakarta, followed by the French Directorate General of Civil Aviation on December 17 in Paris. Annex V builds upon the 2019 Technical Cooperation Agreement and provides a framework for implementing technical programs and activities.
“With the enactment of Annex V, Annex IV, which previously served as the basis for technical cooperation, is no longer valid,” Laisa said.
The cooperation will focus on strengthening aviation safety oversight, improving the competence of aviation personnel, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience. It also supports the implementation of standards and recommended practices set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Officials expect the collaboration to improve the performance and competitiveness of Indonesia’s civil aviation sector while ensuring compliance with global safety and security standards. Annex V is valid for six months and can be extended through mutual agreement between the two civil aviation authorities.
