Indonesia will soon begin receiving shipments of Russian crude oil to ensure national energy supply security amid ongoing global geopolitical dynamics, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced Saturday.
- Total Volume: Indonesia has committed to importing 150 million barrels of Russian oil by the end of 2026.
- Primary Goal: Maintaining the availability of all fuel types for public and industrial needs.
- Trade Model: Imports and pricing will be managed on a business-to-business (B2B) basis.
Russian Crude Oil Imports Strategy
The arrival of the oil is part of a broader commitment to import 150 million barrels from Russia, a process that will be carried out gradually through 2026.
Speaking in Jakarta, Lahadalia emphasized that the government is prioritizing the availability of fuel stocks to meet industrial and public demand.
While the minister confirmed that the Russian crude oil will arrive soon, he did not specify the volume of the initial shipment or identify which domestic refineries will process the oil.
Energy Supply Security
The government remains focused on securing a steady supply of various fuels, including diesel and gasoline of different octane levels, to mitigate risks associated with global uncertainty.
Lahadalia stated that ensuring the availability of all fuel types is the country’s most critical priority before pursuing further energy policies.
Beyond crude oil, the government is currently discussing the possibility of importing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia. However, Lahadalia noted that this plan is still under review and confirmed that national LPG stocks currently remain above the minimum required level.
