Iran Hangings: Trump Claim Disputed by New Report

Iran’s Prosecutor-General Mohammad Movahedi Azad has denied claims made by former U.S. President Donald Trump that he halted the executions of over 800 people in Iran.

Trump’s Claims Disputed

Azad stated that Trump’s assertion is false and that the Iranian judiciary operates independently, according to Iranian state media. Trump had previously told reporters he stopped 837 hangings and threatened Iran with U.S. airstrikes if executions of protesters and political dissidents proceeded.

“I stopped 837 hangings on Thursday,” Trump said Friday. “And I said, ‘If you hang those people, you’re gonna be hit harder than you’ve ever been hit.’” He also claimed an hour before a planned execution, it was cancelled and warned of a “massive armada” heading toward the region, as well as a 25% tariff on anyone dealing with Iran.

Azad fervently denied the claims, stating, “The US president has said he stopped the execution of 800 people in Iran, but this is completely false. The judiciary is an independent institution and does not take orders from foreigners.”

The statements come as Trump reportedly pressed aides for “decisive” military options against Iran, following a previous decision to pull back from strikes. Discussions are ongoing among high-level officials as the U.S. repositions assets in the Middle East.
