The UN Security Council on Friday passed a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and other countries, with a vote of 13-0. Russia and China abstained from the vote.

UN Condemns Iranian Attacks

Bahrain presented the resolution, which was co-sponsored by 135 UN member states. The vote comes in response to recent attacks by Iran following strikes by the US and Israel.

US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, stated that the attacks were “brutal and indiscriminate,” and that nations with previous disagreements had united in condemnation. “They’ve now spoken as one voice,” Waltz said.

Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, criticized the resolution, asserting that the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28 in violation of international law. He claimed the resolution aims to “reverse the rules and position of victims and aggressors.”

Iravani further stated that the resolution “rewards the regimes of the United States and Israel, which have violated the UN charter and committed acts of aggression.”
