/ Iranian police announced on Sunday that their forces were able to arrest the largest kidnapping gang in the Sistan and Baluchestan region, east of the country.
During the recent period, Iraq witnessed cases of kidnapping of a number of citizens while traveling to Iran and while on its territory, where they were subjected to various types of torture at the hands of kidnapping gangs, and many of the victims’ families paid sums of money in exchange for the release of their relatives.
Sistan and Baluchestan Police Chief, Brigadier General Dost Ali Jalilian, confirmed that the largest kidnapping gang in the city of Zahedan, which was in possession of weapons and ammunition, had been dismantled.
Brigadier General Jalilian explained, saying: “After a kidnapping occurred in one of the areas of Zahedan, the police received a report confirming that three people went to a citizen’s house and shot him in an attempt to kidnap him.”
He added: “Given the sensitivity of the issue and the publication of conflicting news in cyberspace, the police identified the kidnappers’ hideouts in several parts of the streets of Zahedan during technical investigations and arrested three of them.”
He added: “The gang was arrested during two coordinated strikes, and when their hiding place was searched, a weapon was found, which was a pistol and its ammunition. In this regard, two cars used in the kidnapping operation belonging to the defendants were seized,” pointing out that the defendants confessed to four other kidnapping cases in the governorate. They obtained 20 billion riyals in exchange for the release of kidnapped persons.
He added, “The police will deal with any security breach and behavior that inflames the atmosphere in the area.”
