/ The head of the Iraqi Handball Federation, Ahmed Riyad, described on Wednesday the group that includes the Iraqi national team in the 17th Asian Championship and the qualifiers for the 2025 World Cup finals as “complicated.”
Riyad told Agency, “The Iraqi men’s team fell into the third group alongside the teams of Japan, Saudi Arabia and India. This is a complex group compared to the rest of the groups due to the closeness of the group level, while we see the teams of the other groups being less difficult and easy to qualify for the next stage as first and second.”
He added, “It will be difficult to compete in our group to obtain a ticket to qualify for the second stage, but we do not fear any team in our group. Our luck is good and our qualification is possible. The names of the other teams do not scare us, but we respect them all.”
The double Asian Championship, the Asian Championship and the Asian World Cup qualifiers, will be held at the same time, which Bahrain will host for the period from 11-25 January of next year.
In addition, Riyad confirmed that the Iraqi youth team will leave this evening for Tunisia to participate in the Arab Championship there next Friday.
He pointed out that the Iraqi national team prepared well in its recent internal training camp in Baghdad in preparation for the Arab Championship.
The Iraqi men’s national team had entered a training camp in Turkey in preparation for participating in the World Cup qualifiers that Bahrain will host at the end of this year.
