Police in Spain are investigating the deaths of an Irish couple whose bodies were found in a hot tub at a rented villa in Cullera, south of Valencia.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Valencia stated, The bodies of a man aged 50 and a woman aged 45 were found yesterday at a residential property in the municipality of Cullera. Both were Irish. The spokesman added, Their children discovered the bodies in a jacuzzi and alerted the authorities. While investigators are treating the case with utmost seriousness, Pablo Cea, a spokesman for the Civil Guard, clarified to The Irish Times that opening a homicide unit does not mean this was a homicide and emphasized that It could be an accident or suicide – every hypothesis is open for investigation.

According to Daily Mail reporting, officers noticed that the water in the Jacuzzi appeared unusually cloudy, prompting them to extract a sample for specialized laboratory analysis. Investigators are actively canvassing the neighborhood, knocking on doors to gather witness statements from residents returning from the nearby beach. Shortly after midnight, transport vehicles moved the bodies to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Valencia to undergo forensic autopsies.

Following the tragedy, local authorities mobilized immediate social and psychological support for the grieving siblings. Social workers and an assigned psychologist are currently assisting the 14- and 16-year-old children, who do not speak Spanish. According to Daily Mail details, the siblings required additional support prior to the incident, and an uncle is traveling from Ireland to take custody of them.
