At least 12 people, including a child, were killed in southern Lebanon on Friday as Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon continued despite an active ceasefire.

  • 2,618 people have been killed and 8,094 wounded since hostilities began on March 2.
  • A US-brokered ceasefire, announced April 17, has been extended to May 17.
  • Recent attacks have destroyed residential neighborhoods, a convent, and a school.

Israeli forces killed at least eight people in Habboush, located in the Nabatieh district, on Friday. At least eight others were wounded in the attack, including a woman and a child.

Another four people were reported killed in separate attacks near Tyre and Nabatieh. In addition to the casualties, Israeli forces demolished several houses, a school, and a convent.

Escalation and Forced Evacuations

On Friday, Israel issued a forced evacuation order to residents of Habboush, which sits north of the Litani River. Residents were told to move at least 1,000 meters away from the village immediately before strikes hit the area.

The village had also been attacked a day earlier without any prior warning. These events follow a Thursday where at least 28 people were reported killed in Lebanon.

While Israel claims its operations target the pro-Iran group Hezbollah, reports indicate that a large proportion of those killed have been civilians.

Conflict Status and Casualties

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health’s Emergency Operations Center confirmed that 2,618 people have been killed and 8,094 wounded since March 2. The death toll continues to rise despite the extended ceasefire.

Hezbollah has continued its own operations, targeting soldiers in Sour as well as a Merkava tank and other Israeli vehicles. Israel currently occupies parts of southern Lebanon, designating the area as a buffer zone.

The current wave of hostilities began on March 2 following the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the US and Israel. This follows a broader cycle of violence between Israel and Hezbollah that intensified in September 2024.
