My dad died, like seven years ago now. It’s not something that I think about in a big way every single day. Obviously, I think about it, but it’s been seven years and thankfully I’ve been able to have other stuff to put my mind towards. And today, coming here, being in this building, the only time I’ve been here was walking around with my dad. And at that point I was so young, I was probably still holding his hand.”

He openly admitted to questioning his path and wondering if he had made the right life choices. “To have this happen in this building, for me – and without getting into too much detail – there have been a lot of highs, but there have been some really low lows that I kind of never really anticipated having,” Perry confessed. “There were times when I wondered, ‘Did I give my life to the wrong thing? Am I not doing well enough? Did I make a mistake?’ You only get one go-around, maybe, I guess, who knows. I thought, ‘This is my life, did I make the right choice with it?’ I’ve questioned that at times, which hurts.”

The AEW National Championship victory served as a powerful affirmation, solidifying Perry’s belief in his chosen profession. “So to be here now and succeed in such an overwhelming way, with my family and friends, in a company that I’ve been part of since day one, that really kind of reaffirmed to me that I made the right choice. And who knows how it all works, but I just thought, I hope somewhere you can see this.”
