Jarrod Bowen Commits Future to West Ham Following Relegation
West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has officially committed his future to the club, pledging to lead the team in their upcoming Championship campaign following their relegation from the Premier League. Despite significant transfer speculation surrounding the 29-year-old forward, Bowen has finalized a contract adjustment that ensures his presence for the 2026-27 season. While the adjustment secures his commitment, the length of his existing contract remains unchanged, with his current deal set to expire in 2030.
A Personal Commitment to Promotion
Bowen, who joined West Ham from Hull City in January 2020, emphasized that his decision to stay was driven by a deep personal connection to the club. Speaking to club media, the forward stated, The main motivation for me is staying and bringing this club back into the Premier League where we belong.
The decision followed direct discussions in Prague with the club’s largest shareholder, Daniel Kretinsky, and board member Jiri Svarc. Bowen noted that the ambition conveyed by the leadership regarding the club’s future direction was a significant factor in his decision to remain at the London Stadium. It didn't take a lot for me, as this club means a lot to me,
Bowen added. I look in years and years to come, when I retire, what will bring me the most happiness? That is getting this club back in the Premier League.
Leading Through a Challenging Transition
The 2026-27 season will mark West Ham’s first appearance in the second tier in 14 years. The club has faced a period of significant change following their relegation, with midfielder Mateus Fernandes departing for Tottenham in a deal worth £85 million. Other players, including winger Crysencio Summerville, have also been linked with moves away from the club.
Bowen, who has made 280 appearances for the Hammers with 85 goals and 63 assists, acknowledged the pain of relegation but expressed a desire to face the challenge head-on. As captain, he stated his intent to foster a resilient environment among the squad. When things are hard, we have to put an arm round each other, look at our mate in the eye and know that we're going to go again,
he said.

Preparation for the season is being overseen by head coach Nuno Espirito Santo. Bowen’s commitment is viewed as a vital boost for the club, which had previously signaled that their captain was not for sale despite interest from several Premier League teams, including Aston Villa, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
