Rahman’s Return and BNP Preparations

Preparations are underway in Dhaka for Tarique Rahman’s return on Thursday. The BNP leader is scheduled to address the public and later visit his ailing mother, Khaleda Zia, at the hospital.

Fresh violence erupted last week following the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi after being shot in Dhaka. Offices of the Daily Star and Prothom Alo were torched, and journalists were trapped inside. The case will be tried under the Speedy Trial Tribunal.
