Qatari Air Defenses Intercept Iranian Missile Attack on Doha

Qatari air defense forces successfully intercepted a series of ballistic missile strikes launched by Iran against the state of Qatar early Friday morning. The attacks occurred in two distinct waves at 3:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. local time, according to reports from the Euronews Doha bureau.

The strikes triggered mobile air raid alerts across Doha, prompting residents to seek shelter as explosions from the interception of projectiles and subsequent shockwaves resonated throughout the capital. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that one child sustained injuries from falling debris resulting from the interception operations. The child is currently receiving necessary medical care.

The Qatari military reported that all incoming missiles were neutralized. Initial assessments indicated that the projectiles appeared to target Al-Udeid air base, the largest American military installation in the Middle East, which has been utilized by the United States to conduct strikes against Iran over the past week.

Broader Regional Escalation

The attack on Qatar occurred amid a significant intensification of regional hostilities following the collapse of a ceasefire and interim agreement between Iran and the United States. Following the breakdown of these talks—in which Qatar and Pakistan served as primary mediators—Iran has launched a series of coordinated strikes against multiple neighboring nations.

In Kuwait, the Ministry of Defense reported that 32 Iranian kamikaze drones were detected in its airspace. While the military neutralized the threats, falling shrapnel caused damage to residential areas and critical infrastructure. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity announced that one of its power and water distillation plants was hit, resulting in a fire and damage to production units, prompting officials to urge citizens to rationalize electricity consumption.

Simultaneously, air raid sirens were triggered in Bahrain. Iranian state television claimed to have targeted the Sakhir base in Bahrain with drones, specifically aiming at American reconnaissance aircraft and P8 helicopters in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian urban infrastructure.

In Jordan, the Armed Forces reported the interception and destruction of three Iranian missiles that entered the kingdom’s airspace. Military officials confirmed that the interception caused no casualties or material damage, and Royal Engineering Corps units were deployed to secure debris sites.

Impact on Military and Energy Sectors

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has publicly claimed responsibility for the various strikes, asserting they are targeting U.S. logistical and military support sites across the region. In addition to the strikes on Gulf nations, the IRGC claimed to have destroyed several American tanker and fighter aircraft stationed in Jordan.

The escalating conflict has impacted global markets, with oil prices rising on Friday. While analysts from PVM Energy noted that the conflict had the potential to drive crude prices toward $100 per barrel, market resilience and the continued flow of oil supplies have moderated the price surge thus far.

Status of Regional Security

The attacks on Qatar took place immediately following four days of national mourning for the late Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had visited Doha on Wednesday to offer condolences to Qatari authorities.

As of Friday, the Qatari Ministry of the Interior has urged the public to rely exclusively on official sources for information and to avoid the dissemination of unverified data. Security services remain on high alert, operating on a 24-hour basis to ensure the continued security of the state and the normal functioning of essential services.

Separately, in northern Iraq, a Kurdish opposition group reported that Iranian drones and rockets struck a camp near the city of Sulaymaniyah, resulting in the deaths of eight members of the Komala party. Additionally, the British maritime security agency UKMTO reported that a vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman on Thursday, sustaining minor structural damage, though the crew remained safe.
