Minister of Economy Viktor Valainis and the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIDA) signed three memorandums of cooperation in Kyiv to facilitate Latvian business expansion into Ukraine across the defense, technology, and energy sectors.

Latvian Business Expansion into Ukraine and Strategic Partnerships
The agreements signed during the trade mission establish a practical foundation for Latvian enterprises to enter the Ukrainian market. Minister of Economy Viktor Valainis stated that current trade volumes and investment dynamics indicate significant growth prospects that must be seized.
One memorandum, signed between the Ministry of Economy of Latvia, LIDA, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, and the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, focuses specifically on the defense industry. This agreement covers the implementation of joint projects, technology exchange, and the attraction of European Union financing.
Additional agreements were signed between LIDA and the “Trade House Ukraina” and “Trade House Europe” platforms. These partnerships are designed to provide practical support for enterprises, including partner identification, market exploration, and the development of logistics solutions.
LIDA Director Ieva Jagera emphasized that these memorandums significantly simplify the process for Latvian companies to enter the Ukrainian market through coordinated support and export project implementation.
The broader cooperation framework includes the development of infrastructure, the creation of logistics corridors, and the involvement of Latvian firms in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Trade Relations with Poland
The trade mission also visited Poland, identifying it as a primary partner for Latvian enterprises in technology and energy. Negotiations were held with “Digital Poland,” the Polish Chamber of Dual-Use Technologies, and the WB Group, a private defense firm specializing in unmanned systems.
Economic data highlights Poland as one of Latvia’s most critical trade partners, with a total turnover of goods and services reaching 3.94 billion euros last year. Latvian exports to Poland totaled 1.06 billion euros, while imports reached 2.88 billion euros.
Direct investments between the two nations totaled 275 million euros from Poland into Latvia and 132 million euros from Latvia into Poland by the end of last year.
Regarding Ukraine, the total turnover of goods and services reached 723.6 million euros last year. Latvian exports to Ukraine were 430.5 million euros, with imports totaling 293.2 million euros.
By the end of 2023, accumulated direct investments from Ukraine in Latvia amounted to 295 million euros, while investments from Latvia in Ukraine reached 144 million euros.
