A mosque secretary in Melaka, Malaysia, was reportedly caught watching explicit videos on a mosque computer, leading to the secretary’s resignation and the subsequent resignation of the mosque’s imam amid criticism over the handling of the incident.
Mosque Secretary’s Actions Spark Outrage
Imam Muhammad Adhan Adnan discovered the activity in December 2025 while attending a wedding ceremony at the mosque. He noticed unusual activity through the office window and observed the secretary watching pornographic content on the computer.
The secretary reportedly closed the program upon realizing he had been seen. A nearly two-minute video showing the secretary watching the explicit content was later shared online, recorded by Imam Muhammad Adhan.
The footage shows the secretary seated at a desk with a paused pornographic scene displayed on the computer screen. The secretary quickly exited the screen when the imam knocked on the window.
Imam Resigns Following Criticism
Imam Muhammad Adhan submitted his resignation on January 21, citing instructions from mosque management regarding the secretary’s misconduct. In his resignation letter, he criticized the management for what he described as a weak response, stating that no action was taken despite clear evidence of the secretary’s actions.
The imam also expressed disappointment that the mosque leadership did not support him and that, after the incident became public, he faced criticism for exposing the wrongdoing. He stated the focus shifted to blaming him rather than addressing the misconduct itself.
Secretary’s Services Terminated
Datuk Rahmad Mariman, State Education, Higher Education, and Religious Affairs Exco, confirmed that authorities are aware of the incident. During a Mosque Governance Committee meeting on January 27, a decision was made to accept the secretary’s resignation, terminating his services immediately, including his position as chairman of a local surau.
The imam’s resignation will be handled by the mosque’s internal committee, as his appointment and allowance fall under their jurisdiction. Police have been notified and are investigating the matter.
