Details of the Galway Cash Arrest

Gardaí responded to reports of a man throwing money at drivers at the Skerrit Roundabout on the Old Dublin Road in Galway city. Upon arrival, officers arrested the man, who was found to be under the influence of intoxicants.

During a search of the suspect, gardaí discovered €10,000 worth of cocaine. Officers also recovered more than €20,000 in cash that had been handed back by motorists.

Connection to Listowel Theft

Investigators believe the money is the proceeds of a theft that occurred in Listowel, Co Kerry. On Thursday at approximately 7:30 a.m., a businessman had a laptop bag containing a laptop and €120,000 snatched from his car at Clieveragh as he prepared to make a bank lodgement.

Following an investigation involving CCTV harvesting, gardaí identified a suspect and another person of interest. During the search, authorities located a laptop and €2,000 dumped in a ditch; both items were sent for fingerprint and DNA examination by technical experts.

The 36-year-old man was taken to a local garda station for questioning. He was charged last night with drug and theft offences and is scheduled to appear in Galway court today.
