Armed gardai responded to reports of a violent altercation in Longford town on Monday evening, after two men attacked each other with knives, resulting in serious injuries and fears of escalating gang violence.
Longford Gang War: Two Men Injured in Knife Attacks
Gardai fear reprisals as a feud between two gangs escalates, following an incident where one man was slashed in the face and another was found outside Longford Garda Station.
The incident began around 9pm on Monday, when gardai were alerted to a suspected ‘straightener’ in the Teffia Park estate. One man was discovered with slash injuries to his hands, while another was found with severe slash injuries to his face in a separate location in the town.
Authorities believe the attacks are linked to a violent feud that has been intensifying in recent weeks. The two groups involved are reportedly based in Longford Town and Dublin, and are in conflict over drugs.
The Garda Armed Response Unit was deployed to the area, and both injured men were transported to Mullingar Hospital for treatment. The man who sustained facial injuries suffered horrific wounds, though they are not considered life-threatening. The other man’s injuries are believed to be less severe.
Gardai are investigating the incident and are appealing to the public for information. They are specifically requesting camera footage from road users who were travelling in the Teffia Park area of Longford at the time.
In a statement, Gardai said they are investigating “following an alleged incident of assault that occurred in the Longford Town area on Monday 9th February, 2026 at approximately 9pm.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on (043) 3350570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
