Officers said they’re working to determine whether the same three suspects carried out both attacks.

Detective Sergeant Faulkner said: “On Wednesday, 17th December, we received a report a man had been assaulted last month in the Oldpark Road area, close to its junction with Ballynure Street.

“On Tuesday, 18th November at approximately 11pm it’s understood up to three men tackled the victim to the ground, where he lost consciousness. He required hospital treatment for a head injury.

“The man, aged in his 40s, was assaulted once again by three men in the same area at 11pm on Saturday, 13th December who came from the direction of Gracehill Court.

“At present we are working to identify if these three suspects were involved in the first assault last month.

“They were wearing dark hoodies, and their faces were covered. During the second assault, the man was kicked and punched until he lost consciousness and required hospital treatment for facial injuries.

“We are working to establish the circumstances surrounding both of these reports, who was involved, and a motive.

“The victim has understandably been left shocked and fearful by what has happened. If you have been a victim of a crime, please report it to us immediately so we can investigate accordingly, we are here to help you.

“Anyone who witnessed either of these assaults or has dash-cam or other video footage that could help our investigation, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 706 17/12/25.”
