Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of US ‘Today Show’ host Savannah Guthrie, have released images of a masked person on her porch the night she went missing. Investigators have not yet identified any suspects or persons of interest in the case.
Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: Search Continues
FBI Director Kash Patel posted the images on X, stating the video was recovered from residual data in backend systems. The images show “an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Cameras at the home were initially believed to hold evidence, but the doorbell camera was disconnected early on Sunday. While software data recorded movement minutes later, Ms. Guthrie did not have an active subscription, preventing footage recovery, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.
Authorities have released limited details regarding the abduction of the 84-year-old from her Arizona home and whether she is still alive. It remains unclear if ransom notes demanding money with passed deadlines are authentic, or if the Guthrie family has had contact with potential abductors.
Savannah Guthrie and her family have released several videos over the past week, with the latest message from Ms. Guthrie expressing a more desperate tone. “We are at an hour of desperation,” she said, appealing to the public for help.
Investigators believe Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will from her house just outside Tucson. She was last seen on January 31 and reported missing the following day after failing to attend church. DNA tests confirmed blood found on her front porch matched hers, Mr. Nanos stated.
The FBI has begun posting digital billboards in major cities from Texas to California. FBI spokesperson Connor Hagan said the agency is unaware of any ongoing communication between Ms. Guthrie’s family and suspected kidnappers. He also confirmed that no suspects or persons of interest have been identified.
“Someone has that one piece of information that can help us bring Nancy home,” Hagan said.
