Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to become one of the few heads of government to deploy an artificial intelligence version of himself to engage with the public. The avatar, referred to as PMX AI, is an initiative by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Anwar’s political party. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the digital double is expected to make its debut within days. The project is being developed by Zetrix AI, a Malaysian digital infrastructure firm.
Zetrix AI Trains PMX AI on Anwar’s Speeches and Personal Knowledge
The name PMX AI serves as a nod to Anwar’s position as the 10th prime minister of Malaysia. The avatar has been trained using a comprehensive dataset of Anwar’s own writings, speeches, and the official record of his government’s policies. This training aims to ensure that when the avatar speaks, it looks and sounds unmistakably like the Prime Minister. According to TS Wong, the group managing director of Zetrix, the firm has developed a personal knowledge model. This system is fed continuously with the Prime Minister’s recent speeches and remarks, a process designed to sharpen the avatar’s responses in real time to maintain a closer resemblance to a genuine likeness.
Agentic AI Capabilities Designed to Navigate Malaysian Government Services
Beyond simple conversational abilities, the avatar is designed to be agentic. According to project engineers, this means the AI can take a task, break it into individual steps, and carry those steps out largely on its own without requiring a human to check in at every turn. In contrast to standard chatbots that merely respond to prompts, agentic AI systems may operate semi- or fully autonomously to execute specific goals. In practical terms, the ambition for PMX AI is to assist Malaysians in navigating government services. For example, the avatar is intended to help a user renew a driver’s licence, send a payment link, and confirm the transaction has successfully processed before moving to the next task.
The Prime Minister’s Office Produces a Madani Multiverse Launch Video
The Prime Minister’s Office has produced a launch video to introduce the project, featuring a two-and-a-half-minute sequence. The video shows the avatar flipping through books in the Prime Minister’s office in Putrajaya before transforming into a younger version of Anwar in a library, where he conjures books using a spell. The visuals also depict Anwar as an astronaut, a caped superhero, and a character resembling Neo from the film The Matrix. Furthermore, the video includes references to the Avengers superhero franchise, showing multiple versions of Anwar’s avatar walking in a line captioned assemble! and concluding with a reference to the Madani multiverse. Anwar’s unity government is also referred to as the Madani government.
In the video’s narration, the avatar explains its purpose: No leader can be everywhere, at every moment. That is the reality. It’s not merely an avatar. It is a digital extension of myself. Ready to listen, assist and serve the people.
The avatar asks, What if all these sides of me could be present at the same time? The system is capable of conversing in English and Malay, and it is built to understand regional dialects and colloquial expressions. Anwar’s Facebook post regarding the launch included a WhatsApp message hyperlink, allowing citizens to communicate directly with the AI avatar.

According to Zetrix AI, the system is designed to interact with voters, listen to their concerns, and gather ground sentiment. This development comes as AI technology continues to evolve from simple chatbots to agentic tools. While a traditional chatbot might inform a user that a refund is being processed, an AI agent can verify if the action is permitted, process the return, update company records, and involve a human only if an unusual circumstance arises. This shift toward agentic workflows is emerging across various sectors, including healthcare, banking, logistics, education, and construction.
The broader implications of this technology for Malaysia are significant, as many domestic companies rely on repetitive business processes. For instance, in a private medical centre, AI agents could theoretically schedule appointments, confirm insurance details, send reminders, and prepare patient records before a doctor enters a consultation room. These workflows represent a transition beyond using AI solely for writing captions, emails, or resumes. As businesses overseas begin to automate these workflows, there is a risk that the gap in efficiency could widen if such tools are not adopted locally. TS Wong noted, AI will transform governance and politics.
Bloomberg first reported on July 10 that Anwar was set to debut the AI double to help Malaysians navigate government services. The initiative remains a central focus for the Prime Minister’s administration as it seeks to integrate advanced digital infrastructure into public service delivery.
