Minneapolis Shooting: Activist Killed, Protests Erupt

Video evidence has emerged following two shootings involving Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents this week, sparking protests in multiple U.S. cities. The incidents, including one in Minneapolis where an officer fired on a vehicle, have drawn scrutiny and calls for independent investigations.

Minneapolis Shooting Under Investigation

Bystander video shows masked officers approaching a Honda SUV driven by a woman, later identified as Good, while it was stopped on a street. An agent ordered her out of the car and grabbed the driver-side door handle as the vehicle began to move forward.

One of the officers, identified as Jonathan Ross, fired three shots into the front of the vehicle as it drove away. Ross’s bodycam footage shows Good appearing calm, telling him, “That’s fine, dude, I’m not mad at you” moments before the shooting.

The car’s front bumper appears to have passed Ross before the shots were fired, though it is unclear from the footage if the vehicle made contact with him. Trump asserted on social media that the woman “ran over the ICE officer,” but video evidence shows Ross remaining on his feet and walking after the incident.

Broader Context and Reactions

The deployment of agents to Minneapolis follows recent denunciations by Trump of Walz and the state’s large Somali immigrant population over allegations of fraud dating back to 2020 involving some nonprofit groups administering childcare and social service programs.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, echoing similar sentiments, stated he could not be sure the government’s account of events was factual without an independent investigation.

The shooting occurred just a few blocks from where George Floyd was killed by a Minneapolis police officer in May 2020, an event that sparked months of nationwide racial-justice protests during Trump’s first term.

Noem reported that Good was treated at a local hospital for unspecified injuries and subsequently released.

Protests and Organizing

The two DHS-related shootings have prompted protests in Minneapolis, Portland, and other U.S. cities, with additional demonstrations planned for Saturday and Sunday under the banner “ICE Out For Good.”

The rallies are being organized by a coalition of groups including the American Civil Liberties Union, MoveOn Civic Action, Voto Latino, and Indivisible, some of which were involved in “No Kings” protests against Trump last year.
