Police have recaptured 34-year-old suspect Tumelo Raledi in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, following a massive manhunt after he escaped from police custody.

Raledi fled while under police guard at Maphuta Malatji Hospital in Limpopo on Sunday, April 26. Law enforcement officers worked around the clock to locate the suspect, who is linked to a string of serious and violent crimes.
The breakthrough occurred on Thursday, April 30, when members of the public tipped off police about his location. Raledi was discovered hiding at a house in the Bushbuckridge area.
Police spokesman Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba stated that officers moved in swiftly to arrest the suspect. Mashaba emphasized that Raledi is considered dangerous.
The suspect faces severe charges, including rape, attempted murder, and two counts of murder allegedly committed in the Namakgale area between 2023 and 2025.
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe praised the community for playing a key role in the arrest and urged residents to continue working with police to fight crime.
Raledi is scheduled to appear in the Namakgale Magistrates Court on Monday, May 4, where he will face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.
Investigations are ongoing.
