A woman accused of robbing an iPhone and allegedly threatening a man with a sharp object has been denied bail by a Limerick court. Jade Power, 34, of Thomond House, is accused of the offenses that occurred on January 27, 2026.
iPhone Robbery and Alleged Threat
Limerick District Court heard that Power allegedly approached three women on Henry Street in the city centre and asked for money. When the women refused, she allegedly forcibly took an iPhone valued at €800.
Garda Aoife Conlon testified that Power allegedly pulled one of the women’s hair during the incident. A pedestrian who intervened to help the women was then allegedly threatened with what witnesses believed to be a knife.
Following the incident, a garda on patrol stopped Power and allegedly found nail snips and manicure scissors on her person.
Garda Concerns and Defense Arguments
Garda Conlon objected to bail, expressing concerns that Power would not appear in court and would not abide by any court-imposed conditions. She also stated that Power has a crack cocaine addiction and may engage in further criminality to fund her habit.
Solicitor Darach McCarthy, representing Power, stated that she previously lived in the UK and that her 12-year-old son is due to make his confirmation in the coming weeks. He also noted that she is not charged with possession of a weapon.
McCarthy further argued that Power has now secured accommodation at Thomond House, providing her with some stability, after previously experiencing a “very nomadic existence.” He added that it’s “clear she’s not well.”
Court Decision
Judge Patricia Harney acknowledged that the accused is “innocent until proven guilty” and that the alleged offenses are “serious,” but nevertheless refused bail due to the Garda objection. Power has been remanded in custody pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. A file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
