Mount Rinjani National Park will temporarily close its hiking trails in Lombok starting January 1, 2026, due to anticipated adverse weather conditions.
Mount Rinjani Hiking Trails to Close for Weather Concerns
The closure, announced by the Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office, Yarman, is in accordance with a circular from the Minister of Forestry regarding disaster mitigation for floods and landslides. The official notice was issued in a letter numbered PG.8/T.39/TU/KSA.04.01/B/12/2025.
All hiking destinations within the national park will be closed from January 1, 2026, through March 31, 2026, according to a statement released Monday, December 22, 2025, and shared via the @btn_gn_rinjani Instagram account.
Six main hiking trails will be affected by the closure: Senaru, Torean, Sembalun, Timbanuh, Tetebatu, and Aik Berik. The decision is based on weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Mataram, which indicate a transition into the rainy season for the 2025/2026 period.
BMKG is also tracking Tropical Cyclone Genesis 93S and has warned of potential hydro-meteorological disasters, including heavy rain, strong winds, floods, landslides, and tornadoes.
According to a social media post by the National Park, the closure is intended to ensure visitor safety and allow Mount Rinjani to recover during the transition to the rainy season. The move aims to balance visitor safety with environmental health.
The last check-in time for hikers is set for December 31, 2025, with all visitors required to check out by January 3, 2026. The eRinjani ticket booking system will close on December 28, 2025, at 23:59 Central Indonesian Time (WITA).
