A new contemporary exhibition on Latvian history, “Streaming Time,” will open to the public at the Latvian National Museum of History (LNMH) in Riga Castle on March 21. The museum was closed last September in preparation for the new display.

“Streaming Time” Exhibition to Detail 12,500 Years of Latvian History

Historical objects and digital content are combined in a unique design to tell the story of Latvia and its inhabitants from the earliest times to the present day. The exhibition divides Latvian history into nine themes: Inventive Humans, People of the Hillforts, City Walls Unite, Together in the Congregation, Born into One’s Class, Power of the Movement, Becoming a Citizen, Totalitarian Stranglehold and Return to Europe.

The displays are arranged in a series of unusual shapes, designed to resemble a winding river of time, allowing visitors to move through the narrative.

A catalogue titled “Streaming Time: A Journey through Latvian History” will be available for purchase in the museum store alongside the exhibition’s opening. The publication, offered in both Latvian and English, features items from the museum’s collection and provides an overview of Latvian history. Deniss Hanovs authored the introductory essay, with contributions from the exhibition’s authors in the selection of items and accompanying texts.

DJA, led by architect Didzis Jaunzems, designed the exhibition, while Solavi and Ad Production handled production, installation, and multimedia development.
