The European Judo Union (EJU) has announced that Riga, Latvia, will host the Ne-waza European Judo Championships on August 20, 2026.
Event Shift Following Venue Change
The decision follows the French Judo Federation’s return of the organization rights for the 2026 Veteran European Championships, where the Ne-waza competition was originally planned. The EJU quickly secured Riga as an alternative host to ensure the event’s continuity.
The Veteran European Championships 2026 have been relocated to Portimão, Portugal, and will now feature only individual competition. The Ne-waza Championships will be a standalone event in Riga.
Vsevolods Zelonijs, President of the Latvian Judo Federation, expressed gratitude to the EJU for their trust and the opportunity to host the inaugural European Ne-waza Championship.
Zelonijs highlighted the successful organization of previous events in Latvia, including Cups, European Cups, and European Championships, and emphasized the commitment to raising standards and promoting judo within the Baltic region.
He believes Ne-waza holds significant promise for the future of judo and has the potential to become a widely followed discipline. Zelonijs affirmed Latvia’s dedication to delivering a championship at the highest level, uniting cadets, juniors, seniors, and veterans.
The Latvian Judo Federation is confident the championship will be a celebration of judo.
