Dieter F. Uchtdorf has been called to serve as Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, following the passing of President Jeffrey R. Holland on December 27, 2025. The appointment was made official Thursday, January 8, 2026, by Church President Dallin H. Oaks.
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles Leadership
The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest presiding body in the government of the Church. Apostles serve as special witnesses of Jesus Christ and have significant administrative responsibilities for the global Church, operating under the direction of the First Presidency.
According to Church practice, the senior member by date of ordination to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles becomes quorum president. President Henry B. Eyring, currently serving as First Counselor in the First Presidency, is the senior member. Therefore, President Uchtdorf will serve as “Acting President,” mirroring the role President Holland held from November 15, 2023, through September 27, 2025.
