RB Rail AS has launched a new procurement process for Design Expertise Services related to the Rail Baltica energy subsystem in Latvia and Lithuania, advancing the detailed technical development of the railway’s electrification system.

Rail Baltica Electrification Design Procurement Launched

The procurement is divided into two lots – one for Latvia and one for Lithuania – allowing companies to submit proposals for either or both countries. Local design expertise firms with relevant experience in Latvia and Lithuania are encouraged to participate in the project.

The contract will secure independent design expertise to support the ongoing development of the Rail Baltica energy subsystem, ensuring technically sound and compliant electrification infrastructure solutions across both nations.

The Rail Baltica energy subsystem includes traction substations, including high-voltage components, and overhead contact line infrastructure, designed to provide a safe, stable, and efficient power supply for railway operations. Robust technical solutions are a core priority as electrification progresses throughout the Baltic states.

Interested suppliers must submit proposals electronically via the E-Tenders system by 7 May 2026 at 11:00 (Riga time). Submissions through any other channel will not be accepted or evaluated.

Further details and procurement documentation are available on the Rail Baltica website and the Electronic Procurement System.

Rail Baltica is a major high-speed rail project and a key component of the Trans-European Transport Network, aiming to improve connectivity, strengthen regional security, and foster economic growth in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The railway will connect these Baltic states with Poland and, indirectly, with Finland and the broader European rail network.

The railway will be fully electrified, utilize a standard gauge of 1435 mm, and be equipped with the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System). Designed to meet European standards, Rail Baltica aims to reduce travel times between the Baltic states and major European cities by more than half, serving passenger, freight, and military mobility needs and promoting trade and cultural exchange.
