New pumping stations in Tondo, Manila are expected to be operational by the start of next year’s rainy season, according to officials. The stations are part of ongoing rehabilitation efforts to address flooding issues in the area.
Sunog Apog Pumping Station Progress
The Sunog Apog pumping station is slated to begin operations in January 2026, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, MMDA Chairman Don Artes, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno recently conducted a joint inspection of the rehabilitation work at the station.
Officials initially targeted January 16th for the completion of the Sunog Apog pumping station, but the timeline has been adjusted. The pumping stations are intended to mitigate flooding in Tondo, a district frequently affected by heavy rainfall.
The rehabilitation of the pumping stations is a collaborative effort between the DPWH, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Manila City government.
