The hazardous conditions have prompted some school closures, particularly in western Minnesota. Most areas, including the metro, are expected to receive around 1.5 inches of snow. However, snow squalls could cause dangerous crashes by reducing visibility to near zero for brief periods.

Thursday night will be very cold, with temperatures near zero in the metro area and dipping into the minus 10s further north. Wind chills will range from minus 10s to minus 20s Friday morning, before temperatures gradually rise into the 10s with decreasing winds and cloud cover.

The weekend forecast for the metro area predicts partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-to-upper 20s on Saturday. Lows will again approach zero Sunday morning, with temperatures rising into the 10s. The weather pattern is expected to remain dry, with a possible light coating of snow overnight Friday into Saturday.

Milder temperatures in the 30s, around average for this time of year, are anticipated through Christmas and likely into New Year’s.
