Notting Hill Carnival Receives Funding Boost for Safety

The Notting Hill Carnival is a celebration of Caribbean history and culture and is considered one of the world’s largest street festivals. City Hall estimates the event boosts London’s economy by nearly £400 million.

Mayor Sadiq Khan stated that the event’s increasing size and popularity necessitate improved safety and security measures. He added the support is intended “to ensure that this hugely important event for our capital can take place, as we build a better London for everyone.”

The additional funding comes after an independent review of crowd numbers and potential mass casualty events at the carnival, as detailed here.
