Search for Missing Teenager Continues at Fish Hoek Beach
The City of Cape Town (CoCT) lifeguards initiated the rescue operation at 11h22 on Wednesday, December 24, in front of the Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club.
The CoCT water rescue network was activated, prompting a response from NSRI Simonstown rescue swimmers, CoCT law enforcement, Cape Medical Response (CMR), WC Government Health EMS, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, and the SA Police Services.
NSRI coastwatchers were deployed above Fish Hoek to assist with observation. EMS Metro Control dispatched the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter, and Police Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) were alerted.
CoCT lifeguards successfully rescued an 18-year-old male from Belhar, Cape Town. He was transported to a hospital by CMR ambulance and is reported to be in serious but stable condition.
A search is ongoing for the missing 18-year-old male from Montana, Cape Town. Rescue resources, including five rescue craft – two NSRI, two lifeguard, and one Law Enforcement marine unit – along with the Skymed rescue helicopter, are involved in the efforts.
Despite extensive air, sea, and shoreline searches, there have been no signs of the missing teenager. Police WPDS have taken over the search, assisted by a Police Air Wing helicopter.
Authorities stated that the two teenagers were part of a group at the beach with a carer when they entered the water and were caught in the rip currents. Thoughts and care are with the families and friends of the missing teenager and the teenager transported to the hospital.
