/ The Spanish judiciary announced, today, Monday, the opening of an investigation into a number of agents of the Center for National Intelligence (CNI), against the backdrop of leaking secret information to the United States.
The newspaper “El Confidencial”, citing sources close to the case, which is being investigated in complete secrecy, said that intelligence service employees are now being investigated in the case of leaking confidential information.
The same sources explained that “their behavior could be considered treason, if it is proven that they spied for a foreign country, which is punishable by imprisonment for a period ranging from 6 to 12 years.”
The incident angered the Spanish Ministry of Defense, which is the ministry to which the National Intelligence Center reports.
The newspaper wrote that Madrid believes that a country allied with Spain, such as the United States, could have simply requested the information through official channels instead of secretly contacting several employees.
