One person died Monday morning from injuries sustained in an underground mining collapse in Saskatchewan, Canada. The individual’s name has not been released.

The incident occurred at the K3 underground mine in Esterhazy, approximately 90 kilometres southeast of Yorkton, according to a statement from the Mosaic Company.

The Mosaic Company, an American chemical company based in Tampa, Florida, mines phosphate and potash. No other injuries have been reported.

Mosaic’s emergency response team was immediately dispatched following the collapse. The cause of the incident, the extent of the damage, and the specific location within the mine remain unknown at this time.

All mining work at the site has been halted, and the area has been secured. A full investigation is currently underway, with the company collaborating closely with regulatory authorities.

Support services are being provided to those affected by the tragedy. “Our thoughts go out to our colleague’s family and friends, all employees, and the broader community,” Mosaic’s statement read. The company has requested privacy for the family during this difficult time.
