Discussions during these sessions tackled critical pressure points in the conflict. Divergent Stances on U.S. Demands and Regional Pressures

While the Pakistani delegation emphasized positive momentum, Iranian state media detailed deep-seated friction concerning Washington’s demands. The Iranian outlet Tasnim reported that President Pezeshkian delivered a direct message to Field Marshal Munir regarding the American stance, insisting that the United States must alter its diplomatic and strategic posture. The United States must correct its tone and approach in dealing with Iran instead of dictating terms and resorting to coercion, Pezeshkian was quoted as saying by Tasnim. The Iranian president cautioned that continued American intimidation tactics would severely complicate efforts to implement and sustain the Islamabad MoU.

The original MoU was signed between Washington and Tehran on June 17, 2026, but collapsed shortly afterward amid renewed ship seizures and military strikes across the Gulf region, ultimately expiring the week prior to the August talks.
