Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fighting violent extremism and urged international action on longstanding conflicts like those in Kashmir and Palestine on Thursday.
Combating Extremism
Sharif stated that Pakistan will continue its national struggle against all forms of extremism, emphasizing that extremist and violent ideologies undermine peace, stability, and core human values like tolerance and mutual respect.
He highlighted Pakistan’s sacrifices over decades in combating terrorism and violent extremism, paying tribute to the security personnel and civilians who lost their lives. He called these sacrifices a source of national pride and a demonstration of Pakistan’s resolve.
Islam and Youth Protection
The prime minister underscored that Islam is a religion of peace that promotes moderation, tolerance, dialogue, and respect for human life. He stressed the importance of protecting youth from extremist ideologies through education, opportunities, and positive thinking.
Global Injustices and Conflict Resolution
Sharif stated that social justice, economic inclusion, and interfaith harmony are essential for sustainable peace. He added that global injustices, prolonged conflicts, and human rights violations contribute to the spread of extremism and violence.
He specifically referenced unresolved disputes in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, where civilians face oppression and denial of basic rights, characterizing these situations as examples of extremist behavior. He urged the international community to take effective steps toward just and peaceful resolutions to these conflicts.
Pakistan, Sharif concluded, will continue to collaborate with the international community through cooperation and joint strategies to counter violent extremism and promote a just and peaceful global order, calling for a collective commitment to building a peaceful, secure, and harmonious society.
