Lahore, Pakistan – Punjab University is focusing on equipping its students with modern skills and reforming its education system to align with international standards, according to university officials.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized the need to move away from rote learning during the 10th International Conference organized by the PU Hailey College of Banking and Finance (HCBF) on Wednesday. He stated that advancements in technology are accompanied by increasing risks, particularly those related to natural disasters, highlighting the crucial role of insurance companies in mitigating these challenges.
Dr. Ali noted that the university is training students to make decisions aligned with future trends, and that agriculture is increasingly shifting towards mechanization with the use of technology. He advised students to prioritize skill development with technology in mind and to value individuals based on knowledge and piety rather than power or wealth. He also stressed the importance of assessing future employment opportunities, specifically within the next three years.
Muhammad Hasham, Chief Operating Officer of IGI General Insurance, praised Dr. Ali’s contributions to the development of PU HCBF, stating that the institution runs the best insurance program. He highlighted the significant employment opportunities within the insurance sector, with over 100,000 people currently employed, and noted its expansion alongside the digital economy. Hasham also emphasized the need to verify information obtained from AI tools.
Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, In-Charge of HCBF, stated that the college’s educational standards and infrastructure have improved under the leadership of Principal Dr. Ahmed Muneeb Mehta. He added that the conference will provide students with valuable insights into emerging trends.
