A Bengaluru doctor on board an IndiGo flight from Goa to New Delhi provided critical medical assistance to a 34-year-old American woman who collapsed mid-air on Saturday, prompting a priority landing in Delhi.

Mid-Air Medical Emergency

The passenger, identified as Jenny from California, began experiencing uneasiness and shivers approximately 10 minutes after takeoff. She was traveling with her sister to attend a wedding in Delhi when she collapsed in the 16th row.

Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, a medical professional and former Congress MLA from Karnataka’s Belagavi district, immediately responded to the situation before a call for a doctor could be made. She found the passenger unconscious, pale, and severely dehydrated, exhibiting symptoms suggestive of a seizure.

Dr. Nimbalkar obtained the passenger’s medical history from her sister and initiated resuscitative measures, successfully reviving her. She then administered an oral electrolyte solution that the passenger had with her, as she had been experiencing a stomach infection the previous day.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Dr. Nimbalkar was again called to assist the passenger, who had collapsed a second time and was in critical condition. The flight captain was informed of the ongoing medical emergency, and a priority landing was arranged in New Delhi. The passenger was evacuated to a hospital upon landing.
