BJP’s D. Purandeswari has labeled February 8, 2014, as a “black day” in Indian Parliamentary history, citing the bifurcation of a state being decided “on the floor of the House” without sufficient debate.

Amaravati Capital Recognition Debate

Purandeswari stated that when Telangana began its journey, Hyderabad was a “ready, functional and globally” established capital. However, Andhra Pradesh, following the bifurcation, lacked a capital city, an Assembly, a Secretariat, or a functioning administrative system.

She noted that the people of Andhra Pradesh accepted the division “peacefully and constitutionally, keeping the nation’s interests in mind.”

Purandeswari recalled that when three states were created under former Prime Minister Vajpayee, each was allocated a capital city, but Andhra Pradesh in 2014 was “subjected to deep humiliation” in this regard.
