/ The Electricity and Energy Committee in the Iraqi Parliament confirmed, on Monday, that the connection with the Gulf countries will end in late 2024, while noting that the Jordanian connection provided 500 megawatts in western Iraq.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hassan Al-Asadi, told Agency, “The Ministry of Electricity is proceeding according to steps that have reached advanced stages in linking electrical energy with the Gulf countries, and that the project requires work and connection to lines 132.”
He added, “The next year will witness a complete development in the file of electrical energy connection between Iraq and the Gulf countries,” noting that “the Gulf connection will provide Iraq, as a first stage, with 1,500 megawatts.”
Regarding the Jordanian connection, Al-Asadi explained, “The connection between Iraq and Jordan has been completed and has been utilized in the Rutba area in Anbar Governorate, and as a first stage, Iraq has been equipped with 500 megawatts.”
On October 26, the media office of the Minister of Electricity announced the completion of the first phase of the electrical interconnection with Jordan, pointing out that the Rutba area, west of Anbar, will be equipped with electricity from this phase next month, provided that the second and third phases will be completed, to which the electrical interconnection with Egypt will be added. .
