President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has launched several initiatives focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the Philippines’ education system and broader economy, aiming for a “harmonized, human-centered AI ecosystem.” These efforts include Project AGAP.AI and a DepEd AI initiative, designed to bridge the gap between technology and education.
Project AGAP.AI Launched
Project AGAP.AI, or Accelerating Governance and Adaptive Pedagogy through Artificial Intelligence, was launched to enhance the education sector through AI. The initiative seeks to equip students and educators with the skills needed to navigate the evolving technological landscape. Marcos emphasized the importance of utilizing AI as a tool to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for future careers.
Harmonized AI Ecosystem
The President envisions a national AI ecosystem that is both innovative and inclusive. He stressed the need to create an environment where AI benefits all Filipinos, fostering economic growth and social progress. Marcos urged students to embrace AI but cautioned against relying on it to replace hard work and determination.
DepEd’s AI Initiative
The Department of Education (DepEd) is also implementing its own AI initiative, details of which were unveiled alongside Project AGAP.AI. This initiative will focus on integrating AI tools and resources into the curriculum, providing teachers with training and support, and ensuring equitable access to technology for all students.
Marcos underscored that while AI offers immense potential, it should complement, not substitute, the values of diligence and perseverance. He encouraged students to continue honing their critical thinking skills and maintaining a strong work ethic.
