A petition has been launched to help bring a Waterford man with multiple sclerosis back from a nursing home in County Wexford.
Petition to Return Waterford Man Home
The petition, titled ‘Help bring David back to Waterford,’ has garnered over 600 signatures on change.org.
According to the petition organiser, 45-year-old David, who lives with multiple sclerosis, is currently residing in a nursing home in County Wexford, separated from his home in County Waterford. This relocation was necessary due to the lack of nursing homes in Waterford able to accommodate his complex care needs, but is causing him significant emotional distress.
The petition states that David, a native of Waterford, deserves the comfort and familiarity of his home, family, and friends during this vulnerable time.
The organiser is calling on local health authorities, nursing home administrators, and community leaders to collaborate and find a solution to bring David closer to his roots. The petition also aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with multiple sclerosis and the need for increased resources in Waterford for those requiring nursing home care.
The petition highlights that there are more than 1,200 people under the age of 65 in nursing homes in Ireland due to a lack of adaptable housing and appropriate accommodation.
“Stand with us to help raise awareness for these people and help bring David back to Waterford so he can be nearer to his family and friends,” the organiser added.
