Poll: Netanyahu’s Likud Drops a Seat, Opposition Short of Majority Without Arab Parties

Public support remains insufficient for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a new government, while the opposition also falls short of a majority without the backing of Arab parties, according to a recent poll.

Poll Results

A Channel 12 poll published Thursday indicated that Netanyahu’s Likud party would secure 25 seats, one fewer than in last week’s poll. Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s party is projected to receive 22 seats, and the Democrats, led by Yair Golan, would gain 11 seats, a decrease of one compared to the previous poll.

Both the coalition and opposition blocs remain stable, with parties in Netanyahu’s government currently projected to win 51 seats.

The opposition bloc is forecast to win 69 seats, but would require the support of Arab parties to reach the 61-seat majority needed to form a government. Without that support, they would hold 59 seats.

Yesh Atid, led by former Prime Minister Yair Lapid, is projected to receive eight seats, a loss of one from last week’s poll. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s far-right party remains steady at nine seats.

United Torah Judaism and Shas are projected to receive eight and nine seats, respectively, a slight change from Shas’ eight-seat result in last week’s poll. Yisrael Beiteinu and Yashar both rose to nine seats, compared to eight in the previous poll. United Arab List and Hadash-Ta’al each hold five seats.

Religious Zionism, Kahol Lavan, The Reservists, and the secular Palestinian nationalist Balad party remain below the threshold for parliamentary representation.

Leaders of the Arab parties announced their intention to run on a joint list in the upcoming Knesset elections on Thursday, following a demonstration protesting crime and violence in the Arab community. The statement was signed by Mansour Abbas, Ayman Odeh, Ahmad Tibi, and Sami Abu Shahadeh.

The survey was conducted by the Midgam institute headed by Mano Geva, in collaboration with ipanel.
