Prabowo pledges continued monitoring of Sumatra flood recovery

President Prabowo Subianto stated he will continue to monitor recovery efforts in areas of Sumatra affected by recent floods and landslides, ensuring infrastructure repairs and logistical needs are met.

Monitoring Recovery in Langkat and Beyond

Prabowo made the statement while visiting an evacuation center in Langkat, North Sumatra, on Saturday, accompanied by North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution.

“I will continue to monitor developments from day to day, week to week,” Prabowo said.

He noted improvements in the handling of disaster-affected residents compared to his initial visit following the disaster.

Langkat was among the areas hardest hit by a hydrometeorological disaster triggered by Cyclone Senyar in late November. Embankments collapsed at 11 locations, causing flooding in six villages. Local government is currently working to repair the damaged structures.

Prabowo said that all government elements, including the police, military, and relevant ministries, have been mobilized to expedite recovery.

“Earlier, the governor reported to me that shortages of clean water and embankment repairs will be addressed immediately. We are deploying all our strength,” he said.

During his visit to Langkat, President Prabowo delivered logistical aid, medicines, and toys for children.

He expressed optimism that strong cooperation will lead to the swift completion of post-disaster recovery in the area, telling evacuees, “You are all part of us.”
