Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has declared waste management a national priority, pledging to control the country’s waste issues within the next two to three years.

  • National Goal: Control all waste in Indonesia within a two-to-three-year timeframe.
  • Model System: Implementation of effective, locally-sourced technology in Banyumas Regency.
  • Zero Waste Target: Central government support pledged to help Banyumas achieve zero waste by 2028.

During a visit to the Environment and Education-Based Final Disposal Site (TPST BLE) in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Prabowo emphasized the urgency of the issue. “In two to three years, we must control all the waste in Indonesia,” he stated.

Effective Waste Management in Banyumas

The President praised the Banyumas government for its integrated waste management breakthrough. He noted that the region’s approach could serve as a blueprint for other areas across the country.

The TPST BLE Banyumas facility processes plastic waste into usable materials, including paving blocks, roof tiles, and plastic ore.

Prabowo observed that the system’s success does not rely on highly advanced technology, but rather on its effectiveness and use of local products. He described the process as a comprehensive system that functions from the household level up to the regency.

The retired general suggested that this model has the potential to attract interest from other provinces and even foreign countries seeking effective waste solutions.

To ensure the expansion and strengthening of the system, Prabowo promised direct support from the central government. This support is aimed at helping the Banyumas Regency Government reach its target of zero waste by 2028.
