Prince Harry & Meghan Leak Sparks Australia Security Fears

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s visit to Australia required increased police protection after confidential details regarding the couple’s movements were published prior to their arrival.

An embargoed briefing intended for accredited journalists was leaked days before the couple reached Melbourne. The leaked information included planned stops in Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra, along with background notes and guidance.

The breach forced the couple’s team to make last-minute itinerary changes and tighten security. Victoria Police and New South Wales Police both confirmed the deployment of additional officers and security measures for events in their respective states.

A spokesperson for Meghan Markle’s communications team stated that reporting by the Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror, and Sky News Australia compromised security arrangements. As a result, the team stopped sharing itineraries with the media for the remainder of the trip.

Activities of the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Australia Visit

This trip marked the couple’s first return to the country since 2018. Meghan Markle attended a Sydney retreat tied to the Her Best Life podcast and announced a partnership with the AI fashion platform OneOff.

Prince Harry delivered a keynote speech in Melbourne focused on workplace mental health. Despite the security disruptions, the tour included several unannounced stops.

On the final day of the trip, the couple made a surprise visit to Bondi Beach to meet emergency responders and survivors of last year’s attack in Sydney. They also spent time with representatives from the Sydney Jewish Museum.

The security dispute occurs as Prince Harry continues a legal battle with the publisher of the Daily Mail. Harry is among several figures accusing the company of unlawful information gathering, including surveillance and phone hacking.

During London proceedings, Prince Harry claimed the tabloid’s relentless coverage and intrusion had crossed a line, alleging the publication attempted to push him toward drinking and drugs. The publisher has denied these claims.
