/ Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed Al Thani saw on Sunday that matters regarding the truce agreement between Hamas and Israel are moving in the right direction so far, expressing his hope that it can be extended.
Al Thani stressed, in press statements, that the relationship between Qatar and the United States of America is built on trust and common interests, saying that “Qatar worked closely with the American administration, specifically with the White House, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the State Department, to ensure the implementation of the deal.” .
He expressed his hope that the truce in the Gaza Strip could be extended if Hamas was able to submit a list of more hostages to be released.
Al Thani also stressed the need for Gaza and the West Bank to be one state under leadership chosen by the Palestinian people, and that whoever rules the Palestinians is the choice of the Palestinians themselves, indicating that Qatar’s focus now is on how to end the war and ensure that it does not recur, and that the only way to do so is to reach an agreement. A political solution and providing the Palestinians with a horizon for establishing a state.
Qatari mediation efforts – in cooperation with Egypt and the United States – succeeded in reaching an agreement on a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip that will last for 4 days and can be extended, and which began the day before yesterday, Friday.
The agreement included the exchange of 50 civilian women and children prisoners in the Gaza Strip in the first phase, in exchange for the release of a number of Palestinian women and children detained in Israeli prisons.
The truce also allowed the entry of a larger number of humanitarian convoys and relief aid, including fuel intended for humanitarian needs.
