A professional cornhole player has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a passenger in a car he was driving in Maryland, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Dayton James Webber Charged with Murder

Dayton James Webber, 27, was arrested by Albemarle County, Virginia, police as a fugitive from justice. Charles County is seeking his extradition to face charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and related offenses.

Webber, a quadruple amputee, did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment sent to an email address associated with him.

In a 2023 essay for the Today show, Webber detailed how doctors amputated his arms and legs when he was 10 months old after he contracted a serious blood infection, giving him a 3% chance of survival. He subsequently became a professional cornhole player.

Authorities say Webber pulled over after the shooting in La Plata, Maryland, and asked two passengers in the back of the car to help remove the victim. The passengers refused, exited the vehicle, and alerted police.

Webber then fled the scene with the victim still inside the car. Approximately two hours later, a resident in Charlotte Hall, about 10 miles away, reported a body in a yard. The victim, identified as Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The American Cornhole League acknowledged the allegations involving Webber in a statement posted on its Facebook page but declined to comment further, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
