President Cyril Ramaphosa stated he did not approve of the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT). Ramaphosa submitted written responses to Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee detailing his dissatisfaction with the decision and lack of consultation.
Ramaphosa Unaware of Disbandment Order
Around February 1, 2025, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola informed Ramaphosa that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu had instructed the disbandment of the team, according to Ramaphosa’s submissions.
Ramaphosa expressed his dissatisfaction with not being consulted on the matter, emphasizing that the decision to disband the PKTT was not solely within the minister’s authority.
Masemola reportedly disagreed with the decision to disband the team. Ramaphosa met with Mchunu on February 13, 2025, to discuss the issue and reiterated that he did not approve of the disbandment.
