BRICS member states Russia and Ethiopia have agreed to strengthen industrial collaboration and explore joint production ventures, following meetings in Addis Ababa this week.

The development comes after high-level talks on Wednesday, coinciding with a visit by Russia’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Aleksey Gruzdev.

During the meetings, both parties discussed expanding partnerships in unmanned technology, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural and energy equipment. A shared goal of enhancing industrial capacities and creating cooperative production initiatives was identified.

Exploring opportunities within Ethiopia’s first state-owned special economic zone was a key objective of the visit. Both countries also agreed to investigate the conditions for localizing Russian manufacturing facilities in Ethiopia.

The Russian delegation also met with Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture, Addisu Arega, to discuss agricultural cooperation, as reported by AllAfrica. Additionally, Ethiopia’s Air Force Commander, Yilma Merdassa, held discussions with Russia’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Vasily Osmakov.
