PT PLN Nusantara Power – UP Muara Karang (PLN NP), a key power plant supplying electricity to millions in Indonesia’s Jawa-Bali region, has undergone a major security overhaul with an advanced system implemented by G4S Indonesia.
Security System Upgrade at Indonesian Power Plant
PLN NP is a subsidiary of PLN, Indonesia’s state-owned utility and largest power generation company. In 2022, G4S Indonesia began a two-year project to transform the plant’s security infrastructure with cutting-edge technology.
The implemented solution integrates all security systems into PLN NP UP Muara Karang’s control room for centralized monitoring. It also features a smart patrol system utilizing GPS tracking to optimize routes and prioritize high-risk areas. Security officers receive real-time alerts on their mobile devices to facilitate rapid response to incidents.
Vehicle plate and facial recognition technology are now in use, alongside a visitor management system and a CCTV access control system.
G4S also provided training to PLN NP’s in-house security officers and contractors on the new technology and effective security techniques.
Compliance and Audit Results
In March 2024, the Indonesia National Police (Mabes Polri) inspected the new security solution as part of a Security Management System Audit, evaluating compliance with national safety standards. The system received a Gold Score of 94.18%, a remarkably high result considering the audit’s standards.
“This project was overseen by our Electronic Security Solutions team who are experts in innovation planning and technology consultation,” said Achmad Kosasih, Managing Director of G4S Indonesia. “They started with identifying the unique requirements of the customer and aligning them with innovative solutions; then they delivered a proof of concept before a full rollout began to ensure we were delivering practical and field-appropriate solutions.”
Operational Improvements
The upgraded security system has improved site security, reduced the risk of unauthorized access, and accelerated incident response times. The integration of advanced technologies allows security officers to focus on critical tasks rather than routine activities.
Kosasih added, “We were very efficient with our time and maximised cross-team collaboration…This project demonstrates that we are a trusted partner when it comes to securing vital national infrastructure – and the audit reflects the exceptional reliability and effectiveness of the security measures we’ve implemented. We have set a new standard in the industry and it reinforces our reputation as a leader in integrated security solutions.”
